Diverse MND Research
The association funds biomedical and social/community based research in
Scotland. Research to improve care and quality of life for people living with MND is
as important as discovering a cure. We create a Monthly Research Update that will keep you abreast of global developments.
Common Interest
During the past 15 years similarities have emerged among neurodegenerative diseases including MND, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s Disease. It is hoped that through increased research collaboration, a breakthrough in one disease may have implication to others.
Outside the Lab
Research is not all based in the lab. In order to provide the best possible care for people with MND there is also a multidisciplinary team approach including professionals specialising in Speech therapy, Symptom relief, Assistive devices, Physiotherapy, Respiratory care, Nutrition, Complementary medicine . All these require research to improve and prove their effectiveness.

Clinical Research
Efforts to find a cure progress under strict clinical guidelines to ensure the safety and accuracy of results. We sometimes hear of miracle cures with no clinical evidence or thorough research. They often prove to be of little help e.g. Snake Venom. Before deciding on treatments consult your doctor or the association for guidance.
