Is Payroll Giving the best way to support SMNDA?
SMNDA needs a regular income in order to plan ahead. People who use payroll giving to send regular donations provide the security that we need to develop the services that we provide.
Money donated through your payroll has very low associated administration costs. This helps us to operate cost-effectively, and allows us to make the best use of your money.
Many employers want to encourage participation and will therefore pay your administration charges, and/or match your donations.
Your employer will need to be registered with a Payroll Giving Agency (PGA). Registering with a PGA is a simple process. Home Office grants of £300 - £500 can be claimed by organisations with 1-499 employees that set up payroll giving schemes between April 2004 and December 2006. Administering payroll giving is extremely easy as all modern PAYE systems have a built in payroll giving facility.
There is no minimum monthly donation, but donors usually give at least £5.00 per month. You can change your chosen charity or charities, or stop your donations, at any time by completing one simple form and passing it to your payroll department.
Payroll Giving Agencies charge minimal administration fees. Give As You Earn is the largest PGA in the UK and is run by the Charities Aid Foundation. They make an administration charge of 4% (minimum 25p) on your donation.
Will I be limited to SMNDA or can I give to any charity?
You can donate to any registered UK charity or organisation recognised by the Inland Revenue as charitable. You can donate to up to 8 different charities at any one time.
Your employer may have a selected charity or group of charities that they support, but you are not obliged to abide by their recommendation.
Your employer does not need to know which charities you are donating to. The charity that you are giving to does not need to know who you are.
How will I know that SMNDA has received my donation?
All payroll giving deductions will be shows on your payslip. We will send you our quarterly magazine ‘Aware’, and our annual report (unless you ask us not to). Your chosen charities will receive monthly statements detailing all of their donors. If you contact us we will be able to confirm receipt of your donations.
